Basic Goodness
“ Buddhist
psychology is based on the notion that human beings are fundamentally good.
Their most basic qualities are positive ones: openness, intelligence, and
warmth.”
~ Chogyam Trungpa Rimpoche
Everyone is born with basic goodness regardless of
their actions. We judge others easily based on their outer appearance and actions.
For instance, if a person is seen drinking alcohol all the time we should not judge
all the time. It may have become their habitual pattern rather than trying to haunt or appreciate their basic goodness.
In my case, I display basic goodness in several ways. In-depth,
I never noticed that talking less in the group gossip could be my one basic
goodness. For instance, if I see gossiping about other people's bad character. I
usually ignore them and think that they may have a reason for being in bad
character. Another goodness could be I am a person with unconditional positive
regard toward people; I always give a helping hand to others without expecting
anything in return. For instance, filling the barrel all the time for the benefit
of all. So, I look forward to cultivating basic goodness and creating awareness
through mindfulness practice.
